huge tiff files fail Empty huge tiff files fail

Post  michi Fri Jul 22, 2011 12:04 pm

I have plenty multi-gigabyte TIFF files and oruxmapsdesktop chokes on those. Tried something between 3 and 4GB, 8bit colortable, lzw compression, tiled, with overviews. oruxmapsdesktop seems to work ok but the result sql is only 200MB in size and doesnt display in oruxmaps.

the same tif files work flawlessly in globalmapper and ttqv.

huge tiff files fail Empty pixel limit

Post  michi Mon Jul 25, 2011 4:04 pm

where is the size limit of oruxmapsdekstop? i tried a 30000x30000 tif and that worked nicely, but a 50000x50000 fails miserably. you arent using 16 bit signed datas somewhere are you? 32767?

this is quite hard to find out with trial and error. if you try a too large tif, oruxmapsdesktop still needs quite a long time to calculate. only the result will be almost empty with only a few rubbish pixels here and there.

Hi,

Send me a link to one of those 50.000x50.000 files.

I do not know the limit,

try (if you can) with more memory assigned to oruxmaps (edit oruxmapsdesktop.bat file):

java -Xmx512m -jar OruxMapsDesktop.jar

i cant really upload those failing map monsters... they're all around 1-4GB in size and my upstream is way too slow. if you're interested in working with big files, i could snailmail you a harddisk.

however... i still think that making oruxmaps work with RMAP would be preferable to spending more time and brainpower on oruxmapsdesktop and that horrible mess of possible geo file formats :-).
