Menus getting too long and complicated.
As Orux grows and becomes more complex the menu has obviously done the same.
The problem now is a couple of the menus now have about 42 and 52 items listed.
Several reviews for OruxMaps have mentioned that the app is confusing/complicated and I feel the menus show so many options it can appear daunting to a new user.
It would make sense to have the menu items grouped in a logical manor so you can 'drill down' to the item you want.
If you think this would improve the app I am happy to help and take a look at the menu structure and try and put it into a logical sequence.
Keith.

i think it's a good way to split the settings in different user modes (e.g. Bike / flight/ Seanavi/ Geocache)
first select the mode and then only the responsible items in settings appears.

Re: Menus getting too long and complicated.
Also, it is good with program to have more "advanced" and "change the interface" items to be in the "sub menu" the ones that are harder to get to, are more advanced.
so the program "just works" at first.
myself i do not feel that it is "complicated" at all, because all the stuff is so very needed to configure for different styles and type of use. it just needs some organisation.
I could see how a new user could be confused by the array of items, even have to read a manuel :-) to know how to use it. I did.
If it appears to a new user to be Simple. then after the user has begun to use it and then WANTS to change things, and wants to configure it for thier needs, then that stuff needs to be available.
That is the order, simple first, then complexity available.
Having more seperations of menu items, or sub menu items , and the Sub menu items are always the more complex items. making sure that there are items Groupings, that relate directally to thier functions.
having "requesters" Pop-Up Pages that have many setting items on them, that relate to One specific type of adjustments. this can reduce the percieved quantity of items, by having 3-6 related items on the same page.
A single "page" that has all "tracking" parameters , a single page that has all "GPS settings" items. (or a single menu or sub menu)
and one more "request" anything that takes a Number as input , to not REQUIRE a keyboard for input, by having the numbers be changable via the up down arrow on the side of the input.
a program should always have a "moran mode" where it "just works" without any interaction from the user, this will get users to TRY it, but for users to KEEP using it, it has to have the more advanced configuration items also.
If users can get a handle on the program and use it right away, they can always refer to the manuel or the forum to discover how to change something that is more complex.
items that most people would change only ONE time, would also be the items that are further down or harder to get to. Even though that can make "setting up" harder at first, the most used and changed items will be less clicks away.

I feel it is only because of the length of menus it can be perceived as complicated. such an array of settings could be daunting for a new user. It's not until you have spent time with OruxMaps and use the different users requirements and understand the settings you begin to appreciate the value of the settings available. I think it's amazing nearly all requests for different features have been added and often within days.
With regards to suggestions for the menu system, I think it would be good to break down the menu settings for example: Menu PDF (Orux, this is as far as I could get or now but if you want I can work on it further)
One of the problems with this is there are many items that could be placed into multiple menus but it's really a case of trying to decide the most logical place a user would expect to find it...... not easy.

I think the suggestion made by Orux in another thread, 'creating profiles' would work better if it can be done.
OruxMaps could be installed with several profiles, similar to nanu's suggestion '(e.g. Bike / flight/ Seanavi/ Geocache)' (I would add Hike or walk) this would instantly make it easy for the new user to configure basic settings for their use. If required these profiles could be altered or new ones created and saved.
If these are saved as individual profile files they could then be saved and reused with new updates. The only downside to this that I can see is when Orux includes a new feature that would have to be added to a profile. Another advantage of having user profiles in individual files is they could be shared.
