It is better one map than a lot of maps. a large map is better (but not too large, I think 300-400mb is a large map) that many small. In the corners OruxMaps just jump to get out of the current map, so you'll see a part of the screen in blue. If a single map, no problem.
About calibration; if you use three coordinates, near the corners, the calibration should be good for small/large maps, BUT if you have a paper scanned map, or you do not know datum/projection, it is better small maps than a large one.

Seemless Maps
I've got a series of charts of the same scale across an entire continent. There is no overlap in coverage between adjacent charts.
Are there any work-arounds to avoid having to see part of the screen in blue at the map change?

There are desktop tools that let you merge maps;
global mapper, and ozi map merge.
But it is not advisable to try to calibrate giant maps with OruxMapsDesktop, (larger than 400-500 mb for example).

Re: Seemless?# Maps?
Thanks Orux,
For aviation purposes, a seamless transition between maps is essential. The size limits of merging multi-gigabytes of charts excludes the merging option.
Can I request that seamless map transitions be placed on the list of requested features for OruxMaps?

Hi, Icarus;
It has priority 1, but it is not easy to implement.

Sounds good!!
Seamless Maps
Hi Orux,
Any news on progress with seamless maps? This limitation is still a bit of a 'show-stopper' for aviation use. Aviation users see transitions across multiple maps and the blue screen border inhibits important data ahead.
Some other map production software I've seen does the 'stitching' at the map production stage. The adjacent map is referenced when the tiles are produced so the map boundaries are equivalent scale/projection etc. Would the answer be in modifying OruxMapsDesktop?

Hi, Icarus;
Not yet.
100% ready for overlapped maps (I need to do some changes in OruxMapsDesktop) using map margins.
It will not be difficult with maps with a world projection, 'power of two' tile system (like google maps). But the rest of maps, with overlapped tiles, can be a headache.

Re: Seemless?# Maps?
As most aviation maps/charts are Lambert Conformal, does that work for a world projection?

Hi;
Yes if they use the same standard parallels, and the same scale.

Re: Seemless?# Maps?
Hi Orux,
Is there any progress with removing the blue/grey border around maps? I have global coverage of 'Unprojected' maps (Geographical Latitude/Longitude projection), that need to move seamlessly as I fly across map joins. All the maps in the series abut directly against the adjoining map with no overlap. They are all the same scale and are consistent 'tiles' of about 2° x 2°. Is this still on the 'to do' list?

Seamless Maps
Hi Orux,
Any progress with seamless maps? The blue screen at the map joins is posing a significant limitation for aviation use.
Thanks again for a great app!
