SRTM Elevation
I think if would be very helpful to use SRTM - elevation data for almost all the globe, hosted at
http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm/
It may be used for shaded relief and/or contour lines generation.
I would suggest to use files from SRTM directly or after some compilation.
Thanks, Vladimir

Thanks;
You can use the services of elevation from quest or google, I think they use the same data from NASA.
But for now only to correct the height of the tracks / wpts, not to paint maps.

Re: SRTM Elevation
I know there is elevation service;
but it require data connection.
SRTM would provide same capability offline, plus shaded relief. It may greatly improve topo map usage.

Re: SRTM Elevation
Hello,
I installed this app from the Google Play Store: https://sites.google.com/site/highaltitudeapp/
You can download SRTM data (links provided at the bottom of the site), and place them on your phone, so the 'HighAltitude'-app can use them to display your altitude. Works very well, but apart from that, the capabilities of this app are rather limited (no offline maps, no track recording,...).
Would it be possible to integrate something like this in feature updates of Oruxmaps? This would make this already highly appreciated app superb! Thanks in advance.

Re: SRTM Elevation
it would be really cool if Oruxmaps could use SRTM data to draw height lines on top of vector maps which do not have this info currently. Navit does it with some tweaking. It is unfortunate that there is no good standard for SRTM vector data.. many OSM projects and navit use garmin images.

Well there exists a way to show contour lines with mapsforge (very small data, tiles are generated on device on demand). Have a look at:
https://oruxmaps.forumotion.com/t2216-contourlines-added-for-oruxmapsforge
If you don't know mapsforge have a look at:
http://code.google.com/p/mapsforge/
And of course Oruxmaps support mapsforge...
Best regards,
Hans
