New version 1.4.5beta
Hi all;
A new version for test of OruxMapsDesktop: http://oruxmaps.x10hosting.com/OruxMapsDesktop1.4.5beta.zip
New features:
-> Uses a formula of 7 parameters for conversion of datums (if any) more accurately.
-> The coordinates can be introduced in multiple ways (decimal point '.' If they are into degrees, minutes and seconds, separated by a space):
-> The batch converter can operate with more datums and projections. But there is a trick, because I do not have a complete list of how Ozi calls all Datums. There is a file (it is in the folder of OruxMapsDesktop, next to the application executable) Ozi2Orux.txt containing the names of the datum in Ozi and OruxMaps respectively:
example:
Datum Lisboa (Portugal)|Lisbon/Lisboa 1973 (DLX) Portugal
European 1950 (Spain and Portugal)|European 1950España
Thus, you can add more automatic translations, the first value is what appears in the file. map (the file Ozi calibration):
Datum Lisboa (Portugal) , WGS 84, 0.0000, 0.0000, WGS 84
then put a '|' and then the datum for OruxMaps, which are available in the file datums.txt (again it is in the folder OruxMapsDesktop, next to the application executable):
Lisbon / Lisboa 1973 (DLX) | Portugal | International 1924 | -288.880000 | -91.740000 | 126.240000 | 1.6910 | -0.4100 | 0.2110 | -4598
The values to be pasted in the file are underlined , THIS TIME BY ELIMINATING THE '|'.
And remember, you always have to do tests to see if the maps are well-calibrated (no one would try to calibrate the first batch 1000 maps can be a long time, better try with 2 / 3 and see what it does well!) ; a quick way to check if the conversion is going well with google maps.

Hi, JS;
Last version (2.0.0beta, see the web site) can read geotiff, if you have jai-tools installed in your jvm.
OruxMapsDesktop displays calibration information, and reads the coordinates, but still can not translate datum & projection; these parameters must be introduced by hand.

Desktop size failure
I am using Desktop 2.0.8beta on Windows 7
Runs fine for smaller files, but fails above 3MB files. I 'think' that the earlier version was OK?
Converting PNG/MAP combination to clean directory
Converter error is: 'an error occurred while generating calibration file!'
Batch Converter error is: 'Failed: (path of source.map) empty String!!!'

How do you actually install "jaitools in your virtual machine". I downloaded the jt-all-1.2.0.jar, but I have no idea what to do with it.
Thanks!

Re: New version 1.4.5beta
I'm not having much success trying to read Geotiff with OruxMapsDesktop 2.0.14beta. I've installed jai_imageio-1_1-lib-windows-i586-jre.exe from the following link -
http://download.java.net/media/jai-imageio/builds/release/1.1/
Aside from running the install, is there something required to link it with OruxMapsDesktop?

Hi,
nothing else; if correctly installed, OruxMaps should be able to read tiff files,

Thanks Orux,
I've just emailed you a sample geotiff I'm attempting to use.
Cheers,
