FAA VFR Sectionals Problem (OruxMapsDesktop 2.0.20beta)

Hello,

I am new to the software and am trying to import the FAA VFR Sectionals into OruxMaps via OruxMapsDesktop software. I am aware that I can create the map on the device, but I would like to be able to use the Desktop software so I don't have to define boundries.

Anywho, when I attempt to select the appropriate calibration file, I get the error:

Hi;

If you want to use GeoTiff images with java, you have to install jai-iotools in your jvm (take a look to the OruxMapsDesktop manual)-->www.oruxmaps.com

Then select the .tiff file with 'Calibration file' button.

Ok, so both the calibration and image file should contain the .TIF, correct?

Sorry for the late reply. You can try any of the Sectionals here:

Ok;

Those are special maps; OruxMaps can read the .htm file.

You have to select the .tfw file with 'calibration file' button.

Two options:

If you install jai-iotools in your java machine, OruxMapsDesktop will be able to read the .tiff image:

If you do not want to install jai-iotools (or you have problems):
1.-Convert the .tif file to .png, using gimp, photoshop or similar.
2.-Remove the .tif file from the map directory.
3.-Select the .tfw file with 'Calibration file' button.

Converted to PNG with default settings in GIMP and followed your instructions. It worked like a charm. I installed the java tools but am unsure why it is not working. Maybe a reinstall of java is in order.

Oh, by the way, is there anyway to get both maps to show up on the offline mode, as they are the north and south halves. I guess I need it as one large map.

yes, 'by hand':

Join the maps carefully (gimp, photoshop,...). Use the coordinates of the map above for calibration with OruxMapsDesktop.
