Samsung Galaxy S2 (Android 2.3.4) doesn't work
Hi,
I've been using Oruxmaps now for over 2 years on an HTC Hero (Android 1.6 & 2.1) with no major problems and love it!
In February I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 as an "upgrade". Big mistake - it does not work with Oruxmaps! (I have tried versions 4.8.1, 4.8.25, 4.8.36, 4.8.37)
Every time I track a walk or bike ride the tracklog misses out sections and draws straight lines to connect the missing sections. Sometimes this can be just a few metres and sometime several km. I have tried changing the logging frequency (time and distance) both up and down, used the "Fast", "Default" and "Power Save" options and every time the same problem.
I have tried using "Tracker Booster", "GPS Control SiRF StarIV", "Keep My GPS Alive" & "GPS Aids" from the market to see if they help but no change.
Following some other people's postings here and Orux's advice, I have run Open GPS Tracker, Locus & My Tracks at the same time as Oruxmaps and they all seem to log my tracks correctly so it would appear to be an issue between my phone and Oruxmaps.
Any suggestions please? I am happy to provide a logfile, screenshots, etc if that helps.
Many thanks,
Alastair

Hi, Alastair!
there were two problems with some samsung devices:
1.-the gps has a poor 'hot start'. As OruxMaps turns off the gps for several seconds with default settings, to save battery life, sometimes you lose points. solution: minimal time to 'zero' forces the gps to be always active.
2.-if you use heavy applications while using OruxMaps (music player, phone, ...) android may need to kill OruxMaps. With the default settings, you can lose up to two minutes of points. To avoid this, in settings, tracks, set 'auto save' to 'zero minutes' then OruxMaps will save the track points in the database when received.
Of course with these new settings will consume a more battery.
if you still have problems, we may collect the logs of the application.

Hi Orux,
Many thanks for your reply.
I have tried making both changes that you suggested and then went for a 39 mile bike ride yesterday with a friend who uses Oruxmaps on a HTC Sensation.
Unfortunately, my Galaxy S2 is still missing bits of the track and joining up missing bits with straight line. But it is also showing inconsistencies within its tracking. To explain:
1. In the list of tracks the total distance shows as 37.62 miles

2. If I select the track and choose Statistics, it shows 37.6 miles (I presume this is just due to rounding):

3. If I choose Sections it then shows the last section as 38.99 miles

4. When uploaded to Mapmytracks the tracklog there shows as 62.7km or 39 miles. Please see http://www.mapmytracks.com/explore/activity/551094
5. My friend's phone showed approx 39.8 miles.
Many thanks if you have any thoughts.
