Most navigation programs these days are able to display AIS targets from ships in the vicinity.
There are several FREE AIS data providers on the internet,easily accessed by a URL.
Should also be able to connect to your own on board AIS receiver.

Example used by Yachtmarine:

Would be a great addition to OruxMaps...
