Oruxmapsdesktop and 512 mB map-download

A. What is Oruxmapsdesktop, what and where do you find it, for what goals to use? Like:

"You need to calibrate your maps etc. " (for working Offline): What does: "calibrate" mean?
- OruxMapsDesktop + image (the map) + coordinates of the four corners
- OruxMapsDesktop + a calibrated map for OziExplorer. There are a lot of applications that allow you to create Ozi maps.

What do these two possibilities mean?
And what = OruxmapsDesktop?


B. Why can you only download max. 512 mB for maps? ? Can you still zoom-in when you have made a map of say 500/500/500/500 kms?

B2. What is the difference if you take e.g. a Microsoft-map or an Openstreet-map-spec.(from the Oruxmaps Online list) exept for difference in Mbytes?

B3. What do all these numbers mean: which you should make green and where in practice only one/two numbers will do (to stay under 512 Mb) for download?

OruxMapsDesktop is a PC tool http://www.oruxmaps.com/descargas_en.html

If you have maps in Ozi format, or tiff, or ... (http://www.oruxmaps.com/oruxmapsdesktop_en.pdf) you can convert those maps and use them in OruxMaps.

Map providers do not like massive downloads of their maps, they could cut off access to the servers.

Display first the map on the mapviewer, look at the layers that interest you, then choose to download.

If you want to create very large maps, it is better to use a tool for PC, as MOBAC.
