D96/TM [GRS80] Slovenia Datum

Hi, I'm trying to find a datum that will fit my maps of Slovenia. Old datum was SLOVENIJA,3,668,-205,472. But it was used with maps with Bessel 1884 and gauss keurger projection . I have newer maps, D96/TM based on ETRS89 that use GRS 80 ellipsoid. Where do I get a new datum?

ETRS89 is the same as WGS84, you can use this datum instead,

I used WGS84 in OziExplorer to make a .map, and then in OruxMapsDesktop. Both times with custom Mercator settings, I have those for my maps. But when I load the map onto my phone and start the GPS, it shows my location 550m from where I really am. Sad

Any idea what I could do? I know I can calibrate the map in the app, but I have 50 maps of different locations and I need a method to calibrate them on my PC.

This is it. If it helps, with every .TIFF raster map file, I also have a TFW file. I changed files from TIFF to PNG because OruxMapsDesktop was giving me problems.

The text says:

Coordinates of edges and break points

In the table are provided geographical and perpendicular (?) in UTM (Mercator?) and Gauss Krueger projection for all six break points in this order.

For every point we have in order: regular coordinates - degrees and minutes on ellipsoid WGS 84, E and N (in meters) on projection UTM and y and x (in meters) in state(?) coordinate sysetem.

I think the problem is the projection; why do you select transverse mercator?

Because along with the maps came a document saying that all geo info that came with the maps is now charged from:

D48 datum
Ellipsoid 1884
Gruss krueger projection with these parameters:
Meridian 15 degrees
Projection module 0,9999
Northerly correction -5000000m
Easterly correction 500000m

To:

D96 datum, based on ETRS89
Ellipsiod GRS80
Mercator projection with these parameters:
Meridian 15 degrees and the rest same as before

Ok, try then with 'Mercator' instead of 'Transverse Mercator'.

In the text it says "prečna merkatorjeva projekcija". It could mean transverse mercator. I'm not that well versed when it comes to geo english terms.

Because these coordinates belong to a Mercator map, not to a Transverse Mercator map:

Nope, definitely transverse Mercator, just Mercator comes out all wonky.

I'll call our mapping authority tomorrow, ask them if they know how to calibrate this. Will post back.

I have sent you the maps.

I've tried everything I can think of, but the maps still aren't calibrated. I started OZIExplorer, used WGS84 datum with TM projection with custom settings [meridian, easterly + northely, projection module 0.9999, and then hand calibrated in OZI with calibration points on the outer edge of the map, as there is a white edge around the map. Then corrected all the values for these points to those here:

Saved .map. Opened OruxDesktop and again chose WGS84, all the points and values looked ok, saved and transfered on phone, still not calibrated to my position when I start the GPS.

Then, I moved all four points on the outer edge of the map in OziExplorer, directly on the black line where the map end, again WGS84, TM projection with custom settings, again hand calibrated and modified values for all four points to match those in the image above. Corections were very small .2, 0.1 and so on, but I wanted to use them since they were provided my out slovenian map authority. Saved .map, opened in OruxDesktop, WGS84, all vaues looked same as in OZI. And again, map won't match my position with GPS turned on. Position is about 200m off in both cases.

Working fine using these points:

Select fisrt the image file, then introduce the calibration points; you do not need to create the Ozi map.

NOTE: if you use the same map name for a new map, you must refresh the map list in Oruxmaps, in order to force OruxMaps to read the new map calibration info.
