Georeferencing maps with QGis
QGis is a powerful, open source (read: among other things, completely free) program to manage maps, tracks, routes, and plenty of other things regarding 2D space.
It is available for any platform (Linux, Mac, Windows).
In my opinion, there is no reason to use Ozi. I know that there is Oruxmaps Desktop but if you have more needs, one could consider QGis.
Here's a clear tutorial about how to georeference maps with it:

QGis is available at http://www.qgis.org
Cheers!

Re: Georeferencing maps with QGis
Ehm, unfortunately I just discovered that Oruxmaps (or, handhelds in general) doesn't support GeoTIFF format, which is used as QGis output. So bad.

Hi, febs;
You are right, I do not think there are libraries (for now) that support tiff for android.

Re: Georeferencing maps with QGis
Hello, I discovered that this app
http://it.appbrain.com/app/mobile-mfd/org.hoshis.mobilemfd
claims to be able to read UNCOMPRESSED geotiff files.
This one http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/travel_and_local/inflight2_bbkok.html also have a similar description.
So that allows me to dream that there is the chance to use GeoTIFF (open standard, no need for proprietary software or to specific OS, most important more WIDESPREAD) directly in Orux. Would you please take a look at it?
Oh, merry christmas by the way and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all the geocachers, hikers, bikers, runners, and developers out there

Re: Georeferencing maps with QGis
I think it could come handy to others as well, since when I was googling about the topic to see if there was something new I missed, I kept stumbling on this verythread.
OKmaps can convert geotiff generated in QGIS to OruxMaps tiles.
The only problem with it is that it's windows only.
It would be FREAKIN' AWESOME if OruxMaps Desktop could do the same stuff. I am also studying a way to convert a geotiff to a WMS service that would allow easy importing in Orux as well.
Cheers!
