New button - How to use?

After the latest SW update there is a new button with a left arrow. It is the most right one when configuring the button bars.
What can I do with this button?
When I press it I see no reaction.
Can somebody explain it?

It's to show the Trip Computer in landscape orientation.
Nothing happens if in portrait orientation.

Since I suspect android devices are used in portrait mode 90% of the time, it would makes sense not to show it unless the device is in landscape mode.
