Layar (Augmented Reality) integration via Layar intent
Hi,
Just new here although I'm experienced with navigation.
Was looking for a replacement for OZI Explorer on PDA and have found it. Orux is a fantastic app!
I'll mainly use it for sailing. One feature I think would be very cool is integration with Layar [1]. It's an AR app. I've build myself a layar for Layar which shows all buoys (waypoints) around you. Screenshot below:
If you are interested to read more I wrote an article about this Layar [2].
There are many many layers for many different purposes. Both Layar and Orux would make a fantastic combo. Layar is very good in visual categorized waypoints and Orux is very good in mapping and navigation.
One way to integrate would be to call a layer from Orux. Layer supports Intents [3] so you can call a layer from Orux. Users should be able to define (once) which layers they would like to use (most layers are regional) in Orux. From the cursor + view triangle (if enabled) in Orux they could jump to the AR view and see all relevant waypoints and other stuff around them.
I don't think it will be difficult to build (and make it generic) and it would be very useful and cool.

Thanks. Just test it and it's working very nicely together.
The best way to get the layar name is to go to this link:
http://www.layar.com/layers/
Hover with your mouse over the layar of choice (the title or icon) and check the URL of that link (bottom of the screen in FF). The layar name you need to enter into the field is the name after .../layars/
