new 3D feature of Beta

Hello!

I got the new Beta at once after I read from it. Next I got the hgt files for germany and put them to new "dem" folder. "Altitude from DEM" works fine, perfect!

But in 3D Mode I see not any effect. I tried so shuffle 3D different settings without success. Did I miss anything?

Someone here who's able to give me a clue? I'm rather curious about this feature!

do you see correct altitude values when you scroll the map, in the new DEM dashboard control?

What do you see when you click the 3d button?

Hello Orux,

yes, the altitude is correct. This way I proofed the correctness of hgt - data.

When I go to menue,view, 3D the map tilts a little bit, similar google earth does, but only a few degrees.

When this feature will work it would be fantastic!

Move your finger across the screen to rotate the map (up/down, left/right), while touring, the camera position should move. If you describe small circles with your finger, the camera should move ahead.

when i tip on the sreen and move the finger, the map moves like it does in 2D.

Did I miss any settings?

Are you using the 'old' pseudo-3d view?

You have to click the 'map' button:

at the moment I cannot enter values smaller than 1 for altitude scale factor. I know it was 0.4 .

l love this new feature and as to the best of my knowledge other than google earth this is the only mapping app that has this feature it puts it miles in front of the rest..

My main problem is the controls are hit and miss!!! just the slightest touch sends it off in all directions... At first I thought it was my Arnova 7G3 but same issue happens on Advent vega, Samsung i5839i and ZTE Blade S!!!! it almost renders the feature useless... also you can only use the feature in Portrait which is annoying...

Could we not have user defined controls or simple on screen controls etc and please landscape mode too...????

Very nice feature from orux!

Controls are a little bit tricky, you have to practise.

Playing with it at the weekend I was dreaming about what will be possible in the future.

The best results I got with google earth maps.

new gesture changes works fine! well done! very smart feature.

for me there would only be one thing to make it perfect: when I rotate the map horizontally, the axis is in the distance. I would prefer the axis to be close to the point of view. so the look and feel would be more natural, wouldn't it?

the killer feature would be a trigger to set the point of view and axis to actual gps position. height on ground and the possibility to lift up, keeping horizon in sight.

Hi, the new 3D feature is great. Unfortunately I have a small problem with the altitude data.

I downloaded elevation data for Austria using High Altitude program. Unfortunately around Dachstein (part N47E013) the data is probably corrupted. HighAltitude tells me at some positions to download the tile, even though it is already downloaded. OruxMaps displays the terrain distorted (like if the elevation was infinite). It looks like if some elevation data is missing in this file.

Could anyone please check what is wrong with this tile (N47E013.hgt) or suggest me, how to workaround this problem?

This is a silly question, but how can I use .hgt files in oruxmaps for altitude data? High Altitudes program works perfectly and I can also use 3d map in oruxmaps 5 beta using the same .hgt files, but altitude data in oruxmaps (when gps enabled) is different than those by High Altitudes.
Can I see altitude data in offline maps, from .hgt files and how?

you can display DEM altitude in the dashboard (configuration--user interface--dashboard--user interface--altitude with DEM) but nothing else.

I used the proposed High Altitude Program to download some .hgt files.
Download path in there is /mnt/sdcard/oruxmaps/mapfiles.

I verified that the .hgt's are in there. But Every time I start Oruxmaps (5.0.0) and select the 3d, it keeps telling me that I don't have downloaded files.
I'm not getting it

The path in oruxmaps for dem files (seetings-maps) should be the same than the one set in High Altitude

It now is and the error message is gone as I added. But still not sure if the data are used ?!?

would be really cool if the data could be used for this, avoiding separate donwloading using yet another app.
