VFR Charts - A soution?
VFR Charts - A soution?
Since the databases Orux uses for VFR charts is always a little shaky and they aren't available quite often, you can easily create your own offline maps. I was having all kinds of problems with the raster maps I was downloading but found an easy way around it.
First, you can get the charts for free from the FAA, up to date, from . They also provide other charts and info on that site, check it out.
Then here's the list of what to do to make the files work with OruxMapsDesktop.
Alright, it is simple.
1. You download the FAA Raster map from their website. (ie. Albuquerque 87)
2. You should receive six files in two groups. For me, I got Albuquerque North and Albuquerque South each in .tif, tifw, and .htm.
3. Rename your .tifw file as a .tfw file. (you may already have the .tfw file extension.)
4. Open you .tif file with a program like... paint (or preview for us mac guys.) Paint comes with windows last I checked and it will work fine.
5. Once open, simple click "Save as..." and simply change the extension to .jpg
6. Open OruxMapsDesktop and choose the .jpg file you just created as the image file.
7. Choose the corresponding .tfw file as the calibration file.
8. Name your map.
9. Choose a destination.
10. Check the "Sqlite" box and uncheck the "only otrk2 file" box.
11. Put the folder with the two files created by the program (otrk2.xml and .db) in your oruxmaps/mapfiles folder on your phone.
12. On the Oruxmaps main menu, hit the menu on your phone and refresh the map database.
13. Choose the map that you saved and enjoy.
I hope this helps a few fellow pilots.

Moderator, will you please change the title from "soution" to "solution"? I misspelled solution and it bugs me.
Thank you,
Joshua
