After the upgrade from 3.4.2 to 3.4.2, when i logging a new track, sometimes the software loses GPS signal for 15-20 minutes.
The 3.4.2. worked perfectly.
Why???
Thanks.

Re: Ver. 3.4.3 lost GPS signal
I use 3.5.12 and this just happened to me, I started a record, waited for GPS position acquired and then started to run for 1 hour but...once I finished my running (plain country, good GPS signal) I noticed that the trace "jumped" from start position to 3/4 of the run path and then traced correctly the last quater of the run. I used GPS energy saving mode.

Re: Ver. 3.4.3 lost GPS signal
check out the 3 settings items in GPS, the minimal time and accuracy.
depending on your gps capabilities you might have to set this stuff different.
These Features allow the gps to turn off and to insure that it has a good signal (accuracy) before making a useless point, a very good feature but you have to know a bit about how it works.
when having a issue like this, it might be good to have "gps Accuracy" as one of the display items, and to observe your machines OWN GPS icon in the notifications.
this way you know how your machine is working. and then you also have an idea of the GPS settings you might use.
once you know what is going on, then you can set things for MANY different ways of operating , instead of locked out to one.
a program called "trackerbooster" can also force the gps to run continually. even when a gps program is not active.
on some devices with slower locking GPSes and depending on things like having empheris data either from the web or from the satalites , the energy savings mode will not be very usefull, this can vary largly also depending on empheris data AGE, and web connections, each device is very different,
for more information, it would be usefull if you tell how you have the gps settings set, and what device your operating.

HTC Desire S 2.3.3
Min Time : 8s
Min Dist : 20m
Precision : 100m
I have question, if satellite take more than 8s to fix under 100m precision what happend ? do it fail and wait an other 8s before it try to acquire position again ?

Re: Ver. 3.4.3 lost GPS signal
in my experience only , if it takes to long, it just doesnt work.
that is all i know, because i just turn mine to "always" (1sec on that version) because i have basically unlimited power , and a crappy gps.

Hi;
Will wait xx seconds till a good gps position fix.
Often it is not an OruxMaps problem. GPS is managed by the android, OruxMaps subscribe to be notified when it receives a gps fix. It's easy to notice if it is failing OruxMaps or android: If OruxMaps can not get its position correctly, try opening another program that uses GPS.

Re: Ver. 3.4.3 lost GPS signal
I already tried other apps (EveryTrail, Locus, Androzic), no problem.
But I mistaken about the min time, it was set to 0.

Re: Ver. 3.4.3 lost GPS signal
Hi, I have tried to install the beta release 3.5.24.
I try it again for 3 times to record a new track: the apk had lost GPS signal for about 15minutes each times inside the track.
I use:
SonyEricsson Xperia ARC 2.3.3
Oruxmaps 3.5.24beta
Min Time : 2s
Min Dist : 20m
Precision : 50m
You say the GPS is managed by the android; but until I used the old version 3.4.2 everything works perfectly.

Hmmm,
Not sure where is the problem; may be you can test with .26beta, which solves some bugs (not related to GPS, but...)

Ok.
Next days try the new beta.
Why you don't establish a newsletter for beta tester?
thanks a lot.

It is a good idea. Let's see if I have time, and I work in the web site I'm installing with joomla.

Lost signal again
I try the new beta 3.5.29 and, during the log tracking, lost GPS signal 2 times: 1) lost the signal or don't recording the track point for a little segment (about 5 minutes)
2) stop recording at the end of my trip early (I think it's a lost signal again)
Do you want see the track? Send it by mail?
thanks a lot.

Hi,
during the track, do you have data coverage?
I still think is an android problem of signal loss.
test:
- use simultaneously another recording program (my tracks)
- set minimum time between GPS signals to 0 seconds

Ver. 3.4.3 lost GPS signal
Hi,
What kind of data coverage?? GSM or GPS?
If GSM, I use offline maps
The GPS signal is covered because I make a segment of track previously recorded perfectly.
Next time try with My tracks and Oruxmaps simultaneously.
Thanks

Hi,
I was talking about data (gprs, 3g, wifi,...).
With gps 'Min Time : 2s', the gps can be turned off by android. There are devices (samsung) with problems when the gps has to do a 'hot start'. But there are no reports from sony devices.
With data coverage (3g, gprs,...) the phone can use A-GPS if needed.

Hi Orux,
Thanks a lot for your help and your software.
I try the software 3 times again with your tips and:
- I use only offline maps so without data connection and no A-GPS but GPS only.
- I Set the "Min Time" to 0 Sec
- Last time, use, simulytaneously, with BackCountry navigator.
I'm sorry but Oruxmaps don't record the track 2 times in 1 hour recording.
BackCountry works perfectly for whole recording time.

I Orux, I'm sorry but the problem persists in the new version. I tried with BackCountry and it record the track perfectly. Oruxmaps doesn't have recorded some parts of the track.
