Loaded KML shows no features
Hi,
I've been using Orux for over a year now, and I am great fan. The App and related desktop program has improved steadily and now I only wish the hardware was as good! (Google bought Motorola so perhaps there is hope... )
Anyways, I have been using on and offline maps, creating KML files in Google Maps and loading them onto my phone for use in Orux without problems. But I found a problem this time... I was given a KMZ file, which I converted to KML and it became a 2mb file (a week of GPS tracks with thousands of waypoints). That KML file makes Orux crash, so I was guessing either there was a limit to KML size or my hardware just chokes while trying to run Orux with such a large file.
So I decided to reduce it. I have ArcMap 10, which imports KML and preserves the layers (in this case way-points and tracks or multipath in case that matters). I first simply just made a layer file out of the tracks and exported to KML. This file looked lovely in Google Earth, but when I tried to load it into Orux it says "Processing. Please Wait." but then the dialog for navigation does not appear and no features of the KML are displayed.
I searched, found no guidance or discussion of this, and thought maybe Orux needed waypoints, so I went back into ArcMap, deleted all but the most useful waypoints (less than 100 remain), and exported two KMLs (points and multipath) that I combined into one KML in Google Earth (Pro in case that matters). I have always checked my files, and reloading this into Google Earth (and ArcMap) always shows the features, but again this KML will not load into Orux... "processing please wait", no nav dialog, and no features displayed.
I would attach the KML to this post but I do not see how through the interface.

Here's a link to the KML in question:

Maybe this will help with troubleshooting.

Hi;
OruxMaps can not parse large kml files (an android limitation).
there is a strange bug in the xml file; there is a name space (xsi) but no declaration.
Edit the kml file, replace kml tag (second line) with:
<kml xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:xsi="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:gx="http://www.google.com/kml/ext/2.2" xmlns:kml="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">
then oruxMaps will be able to open that kml

Thanks for the tip on large KML files and Android limitations. And thank you for finding an error in the KML file. Obviously this is not a bug created by Orux, so it was very nice of you to help with an error created by ArcMap or Google Earth.
If you open my original KML in Google Earth you should see tracks and waypoints, which didn't appear at all without your edit to the KML file, and your edits to the KML file do not change how the features appear in Google Earth. However, only the waypoints appear in Orux; the edited KML still does not load the tracks - a bit of progress! Maybe there is another issue with the KML going through ArcMap and back to Google Earth, but it seems Orux has some sensitivities to KML files that Google Earth and ArcMap do not. Have you had experience (or heard the experiences of others) using ArcMap to edit KMLs and those working in Orux?
EDIT: just to check I tried uploading the KML to Google Maps (online) and it too wouldn't show the "tracks". I misspoke earlier: ArcMap saw all of the original KML data as "points" and a "polyline", and I deleted those that were just GPS track points, leaving the waypoints and polyline (not a multipath feature). The edited KML now renders the waypoints in Orux, but the polylines that render in Google Earth don't in Google Maps (or Orux).
