Custom render styles for mapsforge vector maps
Hi,
first of all, thanks orux for this awesome application. I am using Oruxmaps now for about a year and have done a good amount of hiking and also some cycling with it. I finally decided to get the donate version from the market. Keep up the great work!
Now having written the above, I have some question:
I am really a fan of the offline vector maps. As I understand, with mapsforge version 0.30 it is possible to apply other render styles than the osmarender style. Yesterday I upgraded to version 4.8.25 and downloaded some maps from the mapsforge server. Everything works fine and the maps are rendered in the default style. Now I am looking in the application for some hooks or controls to download and apply other render styles like e.g. opencyclemaps or mapnik. So far no success.
Perhaps I missed something or misunderstood the capabilities of mapsforge 0.30. If not, how will these capabilities be availabe in oruxmaps if at all?

CUSTOM RENDER STYLES FOR MAPSFORGE VECTOR MAPS
Hi
I think we may need to merge the style data to the OSM XML (bz2) file.
Then generate the offline map (or obf) file for consumption.
Else its painful to merge it using mapsforge API.
The merge can be done with osmosis plugin - but I haven't tried the above approach though.
Additionally, this approach might not work for all the types of maps like sea map or transport map
as we need to bring the external source data to OSM xml format and then do a merge.
Reply me to krishananth75@gmail.com in case if you have any update on this.
thanks,
- ananth

Hello;
the API-->http://code.google.com/p/mapsforge/wiki/RenderThemeAPI
certainly need a tool to edit the themes; by hand is very difficult.

Re: Custom render styles for mapsforge vector maps
-You can download the default render theme from here https://groups.google.com/forum/m/?fromgroups#!topic/mapsforge-dev/-YYxcYsUfX2w and modify it to suit your needs, although as of now you will not be able to get the result you are looking for.
Take a look at this enhancement request as well and if you find it useful star it.
