Oruxmaps for pilots.
I thought I'd share some information regarding the process of importing a database of airports and navaids.
I used to create my own waypoints on the vfr/ifr charts, but have found an easier way and without manually having to ad thousands of waypoints..
Go to navaid.com and go to GPX link: navaid.com/GPX/
Follow the instructions and choose what you want to include in your database, like airports, vor and ndb's etc.
It'll create your file which you can download then.
Move that file to /mnt/sdcard/oruxmaps/tracklogs on your phone/device.
Open Oruxmaps, load a map, go to menu > waypoints > menu > more > Import wpts.
Choose your file you downloaded to the phone.
That's it.
One drawback of Oruxmaps is that it doesn't give you the option of "searching" for a waypoint, so it sometimes takes 10 to 20 seconds to scroll and find the navaid/waypoint your looking for when you have a list of a few thousand.
The "Go to:" button also doesn't have to option to search and choose a waypoint yet, but I'm guessing it's only time before Orux implements what would be a great addition for pilots.
A "nearest airport/waypoint" feature for emergencies would also be very useful.

Hi, Mac;
test the last beta about searching in wpt list ---> www.oruxmaps.com/cs
you can not goto using goto button, but you can select a wpt in wpt list and 'navigate to' or 'view in map'.

Cool!
Hey Orux,
Thanks for implementing this awesome feature!!
I tried the Beta and for some reason when I go to "waypoint list" and search for a waypoint it comes back with no results.
I'm going to play around and try a few different searches.
Thank you for such a great app. I use it everyday with my flying.

Re: Oruxmaps for pilots.
Hey Orux,
It stays on the waypoints page, and shows the empty black page with no results after searching for a waypoint. One thing I noticed was that when searching for a number it worked! When I included letters I would get an empty waypoints result page.

Hmmmm;
strange!
remember that you have to reset the filter. If not, you will search among current (empty) selection.
try with one letter!

Re: Oruxmaps for pilots.
Hey Orux,
I figured out what the problem is. If you use lowercase letters it works! If you use uppercase it comes back with an empty results page.

Running latest beta. My waypoint list states no elements found. Reseting filter does not help. What am I missing?
