Best phone for mapping?!
Hello all,
I want to buy a new Android device. NOT NECESSARILY a phone.
Oruxmaps is the best mapping application ever. There is nothing as it in the market for normal GPS unit.
So I need a Android device with GPS. I don't need it to be a phone, nor 3G. I need wireless (to install apps and transfer maps!) and GPS *or* bluetooth (for using with a external GPS bluetooth dongle).
Any recommendations?
Thanks

Best machine for mapping?
I thing big display is very nice! I have - now 2 years old - Dell Streak mini, 5", and I want a little bigger . Samsung Galaxy Note, 5,3", or in September new Note II, 5,5"? My dream is 6", 4:3, PPI ~200, display without frame, but that does not exist...

Agreed. As (I believe) all Android phones have GPS and Wifi capability, and of course, price, I think screen size is the biggest consideration. What I'd love is the Android equivalent of an iPod Touch--which is essentially an iPhone without the phone. It's thin, comparatively cheap, and great at what it does. But I don't think the Android version exists.

Re: Best phone for mapping?!
I am considering a chinese device actually. There are some that cost no more than 100 eur, with 7" and up to TEN inches screens at the same price! I will post some links when I'll be at the Pc (on phone now). My only worry is battery life and I cannot find much reviews about it (read: none). I would love to read from some real users experience.
Thanks all!
Thanks all!

Hello,
I am using Orux mostly in the outdoors. Road cycling, mountain biking, ice climbing, hiking and trekking.
I had a two days trek with my wife and we had to use one phone for each day. And this was in airplane-mode so to save on battery drain.

Dear febs, the most consuming part of the device is the screen. So if you if you chose a big screen it uses more energy and then it depends on the screen technology and of course the brightness setting. I chosen the defy+ with not a rely nice screen but the batter lifetime it good.
