How to use Garmin maps

Hi
with the latest Oruxmaps Versions it is possible to load Garmin maps. I tried a german map from Lambertus. In principle it worked fine. However in lower zoom levels I see many street names but not the names of towns. Is this configurable that you see with low zoom levels only the name of towns and the major roads and with higher zoom levels more details?
Has anybody any recommendations for good free hike and bike garmin maps

perhaps you try "wanderreitkarte". Works with latest oruxmaps.

But notice, I guess mapsforge maps are better. Look at the fantastic stuff from kech61:

This is what I used for my last trips and I'm satisfied at all. (ok, I would like more contrast, wait for christian working at it )

thank you for your recommendations. These maps are really good and I have loaded them to my Android.
However nevertheless I would also like to understand, how Garmin maps work with different zoom levels.
