How to use waypoint alarms?

How does waypoint alarm feauture works?

please excuse my bad english

I have a question about the waypoint alarm feature.
I (want to) use it like follows: I am on a mountain bike tour using Oruxmaps. GPS on, Start record.
Waypointalarm is activated in the menu (TTS/Sounds, custom waypoint alarm (on), max wp alarm warning (2), wp distance (80m), choose alarm near waypoint (htc std. ringtone sound)
While biking I look at the map and spontaneously plan my next few kilometers of the current tour. Mostly there are around 5-10 branches/crossways on the next section.
The simple goal is: I want to be alarmed if I reach those branches/crossways.
So I spontaneously create waypoints on the branches/crossways where I have to turn into another direction to be alarmed.
But if I am close to a waypoint no alarm is triggered. I tried it many times but it does not work.
Is there a secret to get waypoint alarm working? Did I forgot some step to get this feature working?
