Hi orux,
since several days I try to convert the Kompass map to use it with oruxmaps 4.1.12beta.
My steps:
1. import the Kompass map from CD with OziExplorer 3.95.4m to get a Deutsche Alpen_ozf.map.

2. Map conversion with Img2Ozf v.3.14 to get a Deutsche Alpen.ozfx3 (over 1.1 GB)

3. Demap this .ozfx3 file with OzfConverter to get a (big) .png file (all other demapper are crashing).

4. Create the sqlite files for oruxmaps with OruxMapsDesktop 2.011beta to get OruxMapsImages.db (85 MB) and Deutsche Alpen.otrk2.xml.

It looks for me very good but I really do not understand these convertings.

Oruxmaps can read this resulting files, they are imported in the map database on my smartphone, but I cannot see the map, complete empty.

Please, what is wrong with my steps?

To test I can give you a link to a small Kompass map of La Gomera ( only 34 MB):

You would do a great work to import the highly used Kompass maps to your wonderful oruxmaps :-)

Edit 03.09.2011:
With a SQLite Manager I compared this database file with another (made with Mobile Atlas Creator):
the image sizes of the "good" database are between 20000 and 70000 bytes, the image sizes of my (empty) database are always exact 4725 bytes, so I must have made a failure with OruxMapsDektop :-(

Hi;

It had to happen a mistake in the conversion.

Surely because the map is very large.

I will investigate,

Hi,
thank you for your answer.

I tried yesterday the whole procedure with the map of La Gomera (size of the .png file was only 25 MB) and the result was ok: oruxmap could read the created map :-)
So the my way to convert should be fine.

I send you per PM the links of a bigger map with the conversion bug.

Hi,
after googling many days I found now the solution for me:
with CompeGPS I can import my Kompass maps and export them in the .rmap format which is readable in your newest oruxmaps beta.

Thank you for this beta and for your answers to help me.

Edit:
Are you sure oruxmaps can read .rmap? .-)
My with CompeGPS generated maps can be read with CompeGPS and TwoNav (terrible app) but oruxmaps says only "Problems with some maps". Are these maps blocked for other apps?

Paymaps exported to rmap by ttqv or compeland are encrypted to a hardware id of a twonav device. Oruxmaps cannot decrypt and read this. You can only export free maps (like geotifs, pngs, etcpp) and use them in oruxmaps.

Now... there are multiple ways to convert your original map dvds into free data. Easiest is with the tool ozimaptrans, unfortunately terminated by its author. But you can still find it in the vast depths of the dark web if you google properly Smile

Thank you.
I will try OziMapTrans, already found v.1.3.0.0

Hi,
I have converted my Kompass map with OziMapTrans to a huge .tiff file and a calibration file .map.

And now? What program do I need?

MOBAC cannot use the tiff, only a pyramid of .png.

i do all my rmap exports with ttqv4, demo version might do. not sure about the new ttqv5. maybe compeland demo version works too for rmap export.

also, oruxdesktop tool would probably work on the kompass tifs. i've had problems with that and huge files though. you might have to tile the maps a bit with ozimaptrans

Hi,
oruxmaps cannot read these .rmap maps as orux wrote to me:
I can not understand the content of those files, they are not free .rmap maps,

Of course it can. You must first IMPORT the FREE maps (the .tif/.map) pair that you created with OziMapTrans into whatever app you choose. Then you export this FREE map into RMAP format.

If you try to export original maps (like from a kompass dvd) directly to rmap, it will be encrypted and useless. If you "free" the map data with OziMapTrans into a tif before and export that, everything will work nicely.

I tried this export to .rmap with CompeGPS but oruxmaps could not use it.
I will try this later with TTQ4.

hm. i've heard that newer versions of compeland use a modified rmap format that fails in oruxmaps. anyway, ttqv4 is the tool of choice for rmap exports. it's much faster too. note that you shoud use truecolor exports instead of 8bit. they're smaller and they're faster in oruxmaps.

Hi,
thank you.
I tried my Kompass card to convert to .tif with OziMapTrans, imported this .tif with calibration file in TTQ4 and exported it to Aventura .rmap:
the same negative result as with CompeGPS: oruxmap has problems with this map.

no idea then. i converted all my kompass cds with ozimaptrans & ttqv4 and they all run fine as rmap in oruxmaps. Size of the resulting rmap files is between 200mb and 300mb.
