Heart rate and trip computer?

I am looking for a way to enable the heart rate monitor in Trip computer mode. As I See it, you have to start "Record Heart Rate" and this can only be done in Map mode. And in order to switch from map to trip, you have to stop recording which turns the Heart rate Monitor back Off.
Am I missing something here?

( Sorry for all These Capital letters. This iPad is driving me nuts... affraid

You can start trip computer view from map view:

right-top button, tools, 'radar'.
